Our Journey to Stephanie’s Sanctuary

The origins of Stephanie’s Sanctuary can truly be seen as a touch from God. Our journey began through a partnership with Pastor Steven and his organization, Hope for Every Heart, which focuses on providing clean water to Ugandan communities. The relationship started with a seemingly divine introduction that grew from a shared commitment to making tangible improvements in people’s lives.

Stephanie’s family had been involved in sponsoring clean water wells in Uganda, drawn by stories of the hardships faced by local women. We learned of their perilous treks just to fetch water, journeys during which many suffered acts of violence. Moved by their plight, we felt a strong calling to help bring water closer to their communities, enhancing safety and improving quality of life.

A pivotal moment came when Pastor Steven, grateful for the support, reached out and met with us while visiting Nashville. Over coffee at Whole Foods, he shared how access to nearby clean water was transforming lives—reducing violence and increasing family time. During this meeting, I shared my vision for a sanctuary for women and children, a dream further inspired by the recent loss of my sister, Stephanie. I even sketched out my initial thoughts on napkins, imagining a safe haven named in her honor.

Pastor Steven revealed that he knew of a ten-acre plot in Uganda that would be ideal for such a community. The alignment seemed more than coincidental, especially when he later sent a land price that astonishingly matched significant numbers related to Stephanie’s life. She had passed away at 54, and the land cost exactly $54,054.54—Stephanie had often spoken of making life changes at 55, and since her passing, I kept encountering the number 55 in profound ways.

This series of events felt like a clear signal to pursue building Stephanie’s Sanctuary. Further affirmations came unexpectedly when, during a conversation with my sister Melissa, we stumbled upon a utility pole marked with significant numbers. Shortly after, her pastor preached on Psalm 23 for three consecutive weeks—an extraordinary occurrence that solidified our resolve.

Emboldened by these signs, we are committed to creating Stephanie’s Sanctuary as a place of refuge, empowerment, and growth, honoring Stephanie’s legacy of love and selflessness. This sanctuary is not just a testament to her life but a continuing response to a call that feels deeply rooted in faith and purpose.
